I’ve got a physical windows installation on bare-metal and I want to recycle the hardware, before doing so I need to turn this installation into a VM on my local LXD server.
I did a little bit of digging around and I came across Disk2vhd which exports the Windows system and prepares it for virtualization (though it might be intended for direct use with Hyper-v).
I used qemu-img to covert the .VHDX into .qcow2 and then created an empty vm and attached the qcow2 as a disk (boot) drive but alas it seems things aren’t quite that simple, so I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this and perhaps (help) put together small guide/how-to to go about this? many thanks!
