Removing tmp images in /var/lib/lxd/storage-pools/default/images

My storage pool ran out of space and I figured out that there are multiple folders in /var/lib/lxd/storage-pools/default/images with a _tmp affix. Most of them are quite old - they seem to be accumulating over time. Are these necessary? Is there a way to clean these old tmp folders?

You can remove those safely, I expect they showed up as part of a lxc publish which caused LXD to crash (out of memory maybe?) and so didn’t get cleaned up properly.

I tried deleting them as root but I’m getting operation not permitted. This is a btrfs storage pool if that matters. Is there a trick to removing them?

btrfs subvol delete should work to delete them
