Using my existing chroot file tree

i am wanting to install LXD to use its (cleaner looking) lxc command. i’d like to know if it can be used to very simply create and run a container that runs with (a copy of) my already existing chroot tree (a subset of Ubuntu 16.04) on my 16.04 host (using Xfce for the desktops).

also, can it do this from a copy made as a tree just like chroot can, such that in the container it in / and in the host it is some subdirectory path?
