It will be interesting to see if RDP evolves in the Linux ecosystem and introduces some interesting technology for Linux-only setups — in addition to remaining compatible with the specification controlled by Microsoft.
I believe the client-server paradigm will evolve to encompass host-centric virtualisation where physical distance is not a factor limiting interation — a virtualised “workstation” that runs very different workloads all requiring both local and remote hardware accelerated graphical display and interaction.
