To free up disk space, I deleted all the images. If I now execute lxc image list nothing shows up.
However in the directory structure /var/snap/lxd/common/lxd/storage-pools/default/images one still remains. It is a Debian VM image as shown in metadata.yaml and the root.img file is 4GB.
It is normal? Or can I safely delete this directory for this image?
What storage backend is that on? btrfs?
If so, that’s a mistake and you can safely delete it.
We’ve seen such problems happen when LXD gets restarted halfway through an image download/update. We have work planned over the next month or so to add logic preventing such things from happening.
