How to add new nic to IncusOS?

Greeting~~~

I’m using AI power for good writing.

I am running an Incus cluster on IncusOS, and I recently added a new physical network interface (`enp6s0`) to one of our cluster nodes (`incus-node02`) for uplink.

However, the interface remains in the `off` state, and I am having trouble bringing it up. Here is what `incus admin os system network info --target incus-node02` shows:

What I tried:

  1. Ran incus admin os system network edit --target incus-node02 to set state: up and dhcp: true for enp6s0.

  2. Checking the network info again shows enp6s0 is still in the off state.

Questions:

  • How can I properly configure and enable a newly added physical network interface on an IncusOS cluster node?

  • Are there any specific kernel logs or steps required to make IncusOS recognize and initialize a new NIC after boot?

Any guidance or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Could you share just the config.interfaces entry for enp6s0 from incus admin os system network show --target incus-node02? Please redact any personal details.

enp6s0:
  hwaddr: 10:66:6a:23:15:90
  mtu: 1500
  state: "off"
  stats:
    rx_bytes: 0
    rx_errors: 0
    tx_bytes: 0
    tx_errors: 0
  type: physical

I changed state: up, but no effected.

That’s the reported state section, rather than the saved config section. In the same output, look under config: then interfaces: for an entry with the same hwaddr as enp6s0 in your output. If there is no matching entry, just say so; please don’t change anything yet.

Here is all. Okey, I don’t touch.
I just trying new VM which have two interface for testing.

That confirms enp6s0 is missing from config.interfaces; it is only listed under state.interfaces. For an interface intended to connect VMs directly to the physical network, IncusOS documents the instances role in the interface configuration. Please leave your existing management interface unchanged.

^^ Thanks a lot. enp6s0 state carrir now.
