Here is a set of three tutorials on how to configure LXD on a VPS,

  1. on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Shows how to use the snap package of LXD 4.0.x (stable channel), the default version on Ubuntu 20.04. Uses a LXD proxy device to expose a Web server to the Internet. Also does nat=true to avoid dealing with the PROXY protocol. The storage pool is placed on block storage.
