Hye Ararat Beta 2 is now available

Howdy everyone,

I’m thrilled to announce the release of Hye Ararat Beta 2 (v3.0.0-beta.2).

This release is focused on rounding out instance management, and most notably introduces a high performance graphical console for virtual machines.

For context: last week, I introduced Hye Ararat, a community-driven Web UI native to Incus.

If you missed that, here’s the announcement: Introducing Hye Ararat: A Web UI native to Incus

What’s New

Graphical VM console

Ararat now includes a graphical SPICE console for Incus virtual machines. While seemingly basic on a surface level, this console is fully custom & tuned for highest possible performance. This console was purpose-built for Incus & Ararat, and the demands of the community. The goal was to make it feel like you didn’t need an external solution like RDP, so a lot of resources were invested in concurrency, acceleration, and a strong architecture. You just have to try it, the performance truly feels like magic. It also has QXL support, so definitely recommend giving that a stab as well!

Not currently included but in development are (before July 24th): clipboard support, usb redirection, file drops, and multi-monitor support.

Instance creation from backups

You can now create instances from Incus backup archives.

Improved backup management

You can now set backup expiry & configure a backups’ compression algorithm

Creating resources from snapshots

You can now create instances and images from instance snapshots.

Build and installation improvements

Installing Ararat is now easier than ever. Following feedback from the first beta, the Ararat repository now has a GitHub Actions workflow that builds the UI archive.

Source builds remain supported, but now require Rust/Cargo and wasm-pack in addition to the previous toolchain because of the new SPICE runtime.

Feedback

Hye Ararat is still in beta, so feedback is especially useful right now. As I said before, the goal is to build this with the Incus community. Your voice makes this its’ strongest.
