Incus Introduction and Consideratons - Feedback

Hi Team,

I created this Incus summary and consideration document to help those new to Incus quickly reason about why Incus exists and how to get started. This is based on my 3 years with the tool and valuable interactions with the community.

I would like your feedback if you are willing. Please let me know if you have questions, comments or concerns. I would also like to know if you believe this document is helpful. All comments are welcome!

Thank you for your consideration, and thank you for supporting an amazing product!!

It supports multiple types of virtualization in a single application: Docker, Linux containers, virtual machines and Nix.

What is the Nix part of virtualization? Does Incus really do something like this?

Both Nix and Docker can be used for application deployment. The purpose of this bullet is to illustrate that we can use Incus to support both Nix and Docker application hosting.

As an example, most of the applications I deploy these days are NixOS virtualized in Incus.

Does this help?

I understood it now. But I’ve seen people call Nix a type of virtualization and it is different from what Incus does. Just as Incus was not mentioned to do Docker virtualization just because it could run a container/VM running Docker inside before it would run OCI containers directly, I find it misleading to mention it does Nix virtualization.
