LXD / LXC versions in ubuntu 20 repo?

makrand@mint-fuji:/$ sudo apt policy lxd lxd: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1:0.9 Version table: 1:0.9 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/universe i386 Packages

This is on Linux Mint 20.1.

Why the LXD (machine container manager) version is so outdated? Even for my other laptop running mint 19.3, I can see LXD on 3.0.3. What excatly people managing repo thinking here? or its the mint devs that used wrong repo?

The current version of LXD is provided as a SNAP package.

If you follow this guide https://snapcraft.io/docs/installing-snap-on-linux-mint to install snapd, and then after that do:

sudo snap install lxd

Snap is extra layer.
I have had issues with snap lxd in past… especially while I was trying to run Kubernetes cluster over lxd containers.

Anywho, not sure why 4.x deb isn’t available in Ubuntus repo? (May be canonical just want to promote snap…just a hunch)
