I have an Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS system running LXD 6.2 and would like to make a move to incus
Installed the 6.0 LTS incus from apt, but hard-stopped on lxd-to-incus as it throws "Error: LXD version is newer than maximum version “5.21.99"”
I’ve tried to deploy a test-system on a separate VM and use the --ignore-version-check but the migration failed to start incus at the end of the process
I wonder if there’s a safe way to migrate to incus if one runs latest/stable LXD, and if so, what’s the procedure?
One difficulty when migrating too far apart versions, is when the database schema changes.
One hackish option would be to view and compare the databases between the two (using sqlitebrowser or something similar). It’s then possible to edit the old database so that it is more compatible with Incus. Then, you could attempt a migration on your test-system.
The alternative would be to export each instance from the old system and then import on Incus.
