Host: LXD from snap, on Ubuntu 18.04, storage backend ZFS.
Container: Ubuntu 18.04.
I logged into the container and accidentally deleted a directory. Is there a way to recover the directory in its entirety, or a file from the deleted directory, and if so how?

Maybe zdb has some way to attempt file recovery. If you had a snapshot of the container, it would be easy to get it back from there, but sounds like you don’t.
