Following our recent discussion, we think it would be nice to have somewhat of an informal meetup during FOSDEM. Of course, we will get the chance to run into each other in a corridor, at a booth, or in an auditorium, but FOSDEM is busy and everybody has that one talk they don’t want to miss out, so let’s plan something!
Before even discussing places and precise numbers, a rough idea of the overall interest within the community is a good start . So, if you’re free (as in not planning to leave) on Sunday evening and interested to discuss and get to know each other, please tell!
@cyphar and @brauner will be in town too for FOSDEM but I don’t know when they’re leaving Brussels and so whether they’ll be available on Sunday evening.
That may be an option if I can time a shipment from them to a time where I happen to be in Europe next time I need some. Otherwise I’ll try to find something on this side of the ocean to avoid needless shipping
Hi, I’ll be attending FOSDEM this year but still not sure of my schedule - if I’m still around on Sunday I’d be glad to join (I’ll update once I’m sure)
Ok so now’s a good time to plan things a bit more, as showing up at a restaurant with 10+ people without warning is not always possible
Shall I just call well-rated restaurants in Ixelles until one accepts us? Shall we rather go to Brussels? Do you have absolute go-to places?
All the FuturFusion folks are staying at the Moxy downtown and I believe @brauner usually also stays downtown, typically at the Hilton near Centraal.
So I suspect that picking a spot in the general Grande Place area should work fine.
The devroom finishes at 5pm but it can sometimes take over an hour for the FOSDEM staff to come pick up the gear, so maybe look for something around 7pm?
Ok that’s convenient, there are good brasseries around. As most of them aren’t that vegan-friendly, is that a problem for your people? And the others who said they’d come, of course!
I don’t remember anyone from our group having such dietary restrictions and indeed vegan is the one that’s probably hardest to accommodate, most places will have some kind of vegetarian option and most other restrictions can be worked around based on the menu.
