I managed to fill the root disk of a VM with, then I tried to extend the disk with incus config edit but always got an error that backup.yaml couldn’t be written.
I’m using btrfs as storage pool, managed to manual update the btrfs quota manually and then edit the file.
when the rootfs is full, config edit fails cause it cant write backup.yaml into the instance. grow the volume from the host first, not from inside the guest.
-incus config device set INSTANCE root size=40GiB
or for the storage volume:
-incus storage volume set POOL virtual-machine/INSTANCE size=40GiB
then start it and grow the filesystem inside (btrfs filesystem resize max / or growpart+resize2fs depending on the guest). hand editing btrfs quotas is a last resort for me.
