I spent a bit of time over the weekend recording a full end to end demo of the FuturFusion Cloud stack, starting with Operations Center running in a VMware environment, then using that to deploy two Incus clusters, on which I’ve then deployed Migration Manager and finally using that to move some VMware VMs over to the new Incus environment.
This should give a pretty good overview of how we see all the pieces fitting together, from Incus, to IncusOS to Operations Center and Migration Manager.
I have a simple question, why do we need VMware? Can we install Operations Center to directly to Incus cluster? I havent imagined the whole scenario. Can you simply mention what does the role of the VMWare?
You don’t need VMware. VMware was used here because the vast majority of folks looking at using the FuturFusion Cloud solution (and paying for support for it) are large enterprises who are trying to move away from very costly VMware deployments.
So the demo was catering to that, showing those folks that it’s easy to get our stuff going by running it on their existing environment, then deploy Incus clusters with it and finally move their VMware stuff over so they can get rid of the old platform.
For someone who’s not moving from VMware, you can run Operations Center on any regular Incus server, or on Proxmox or on libvirt, or even on physical hardware (a bit of a waste given how little resources it needs).
You can then use it to deploy your clusters and later move it over to one of those clusters.
Ahh, I see. Thanks for the clarification. One last thing, where can I reach the documentations of the Operations Center? By the way, congratulations, it’s a great job.
We do have some documentation that’s been going out to customers, but it’s higher level than what we want to put in the actual product documentation.
We’re currently tracking a set of issues (including documentation) across all 3 projects which we see as being needed to resolve prior to seeing more general adoption and us moving to a frequent release schedule across all projects.
