Discuss.linuxcontainers.org seems to be down a lot

Is it just the forum you’re finding slow, what about the main linuxcontainers.org site?

They are hosted in the same place (Canada), but if one is fine and the other isn’t, then it suggests its not a connection problem, but something localised to the forum.

Its working well for me in the UK currently btw.

I was only “playing” as we’ve wandered off the original subject… I dev’d lxdmosaic so I think you’ll be alright if you want the domain (thought im not a lawyer, on your own head be it).

Hopefully though the forum problem gets solved

As you said earlier, if you aren’t logged in (I.E use private browser) this forum loads very fast.

Its definitely a “logged in” issue (in my mind).

Feels like an inefficient query in Discourse, or perhaps even an inefficient browser JS implementation, as I particular experience it on my phone, like its having trouble rendering the page.

Generally its fine on my laptop.

See my earlier response about /poll and the calcs its doing, I think as we have “old” accounts - we expeirence the issue (it returns basic counts variables (not long text), but thats where it hangs)

Thanks, yes could well be that. CC @stgraber

Maybe there is a newer version of Discourse we can try.

Just adding some evidence

25+ seconds to hit /poll (some cases +10 seconds before being cancelled) some never responding - if you see some spikes they probably this…

A cheeky 2minutes+ if your “unfair to the webadmin”

And is that holding up the page being rendered?

The initial page will render (with no posts), /poll appears to be called after the page is rendered (or loaded from cache)

OK so its holding up the “view” of the page then.

I have had an issue getting to the docs earlier, hung on TLS handshake as well and took three reloads to work.

I know, I use it. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

OK that feels like it maybe a separate (temporary) issue, but let us know if it reoccurs.

Wait a second. Is the forum running in an LXD container on a Raspberry Pi in Stéphane’s basement; the same Raspberry Pi he uses for those LXD youtube tutorials? Because I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that’s probably a bad idea. At least get a Pi 4.

If its worked for the 4+ years i’ve been here… i’d say it was a very good idea (the £/$ to “benefit” ratio would be insane, people have f*cked their servers and found help here).

Throwing money at a problem that exists in the future is rarely how business actually work  you have to be flush with investor cash to actually do that.

Are you going to donate one / offer resources? If so… offer the resources instead of expecting others to foot the bill?

Also Stéphane co-lo’s servers with “big boi” (enterprise) equipment (I assume at his own cost), so this forum may infact be running there.

This comment offers little to problem at hand and only comes across… unhelpful.

OK, I guess I should have specified that I was just joking. :slightly_smiling_face:

And if LXD were an independent project I definitely would provide a donation.

Thanks for those links, Tom; I’m going to read through all of them.

Perhaps im to used to seeing emojis at the end of “expressions” to understand the difference these days

Gone are the days when people could express emotion through the use of language, I guess.

" :disappointed: "

Sorry for my tone, for the last few … months. Ive been in a “place”.

Sorry for the un-needed “popping off”.
